Following a federal trial in Florida, a jury found Toyota not liable for claims and damages related to an alleged defect in the HVAC system of certain Camry vehicles.

Cornerstone Research supported Ronald Wilcox of the University of Virginia and an additional conjoint survey expert in this consumer class action involving an alleged defect in the HVAC system of 2012–2014 Camry vehicles that allegedly may cause the HVAC system to emit a foul odor.
Professor Wilcox submitted affirmative and rebuttal reports. His testimony included discussion of the consumer car-buying process and an analysis of surveys about customer experience and satisfaction with Camry vehicles, the infrequency of reports of HVAC odor in Camrys, and how that compares to similar vehicles.
Cornerstone Research also supported an expert who rebutted a conjoint survey and a damages calculation submitted by plaintiffs’ experts.
Both experts testified before the jury in a trial that lasted a week and a half. The jury returned a unanimous defense verdict in favor of Toyota.
