J.B. Doyle consults on litigation and regulatory matters related to financial institutions and securities. In these areas, he has extensive experience with advanced statistical modeling and large datasets. Dr. Doyle has presented to regulators, and works with clients in all stages of commercial litigation, including class certification, affirmative and rebuttal reports, depositions, arbitration, and trial.

Dr. Doyle’s recent case topics and experience include:

Regulatory investigations
  • Assessed whether a major broker-dealer satisfied its best-execution obligations for millions of client orders over a multiyear period
  • Analyzed the impact of algorithmic trading strategies on market prices, liquidity, and volatility for thousands of stocks over a multiyear period
  • Evaluated broker-dealer compliance with FINRA Rule 5320 (Manning)
  • Estimated whether alleged misstatements in hundreds of RMBS offering documents were materially related to the expected performance of the underlying loans
Commercial litigat​ion
  • Assessed price impact, market efficiency, and loss causation in securities class actions
  • Determined whether and to what degree allegedly false statements affected the value of a technology venture
  • Responded to proposed statistical sampling design in context of RMBS
  • Evaluated excessive fee allegations brought under Section 36(b) of the Investment Company Act of 1940
  • Assessed fairness of offered spread for mezzanine CDO tranches
  • Analyzed standard banking industry practices for disclosing information about internal loan watch lists and ratings
