The parties abandoned the merger after the DOJ’s investigation.

Retained by the Department of Justice

The Antitrust Division of the Department of Justice (DOJ) initiated an investigation into China International Marine Containers Group Co. Ltd.’s proposed acquisition of Maersk Container Industry A/S and Maersk Container Industry Qingdao Ltd. (collectively, MCI). The DOJ retained Celeste Saravia of Cornerstone Research to evaluate the proposed merger’s competitive effects.

The proposed transaction would have combined two of the world’s largest suppliers of insulated and refrigerated shipping containers. In August 2022, following the conclusion of the DOJ’s investigation, the parties announced that they abandoned their intent to merge.
